Welcome to being-in-stillness.co.uk, my website for craniosacral therapy and shamanic healing in Kingston upon Thames, and north west and south west London.

'Being in Stillness' means resting in a place of deep peace that encourages profound relaxation of the body, mind, emotions and energy, and enhances our natural healing, self-repair and self-correction abilities, by reminding us who we really are underneath the conditioning of our day to day lives and unresolved experiences. It is inherently non-judgmental, honouring our body's present perception of how things feel.

It is my experience that at the centre of every state of body, mind or emotions there is a core of peaceful stillness that can be accessed. Even deeply traumatised or injured conditions contain this 'seed' which, if allowed and trusted and nurtured, can bring comfort and resolution.

In craniosacral work we recognise that there is a deep stillness that underpins vitality and health in the body and mind, and which is always present, however far from health we may appear to be. In the Inka shamanic healing tradition I work with, they call this stillness 'infinity', and the final purpose of all the techniques that might be used is to allow the body and energy to remember their connection to this place where difficulties can begin to dissolve.

Torus Although the sense and experience of stillness can be profound and at times mysterious, many of its benefits are not beyond rational understanding – most states of ill-health, especially in the west, are recognised as being either directly stress-related or at least as having a major component of stress and nervous system dysfunction. By working with stillness we access the most useful place for the body to do its repair work, and allow the nervous system to recuperate, building up resources to face life's challenges.

I am also passionate about empowerment and see the purpose of treatments, as well as being alleviation of difficulties on whatever level, to be about learning to trust ourselves and our body-based intuition, and supporting our sense and experience of 'centre', so that we become more self-reliant and less readily thrown by life's events. I find both craniosacral work and the Inka shamanic tradition to be powerful tools to help with this. As the body and mind settle into stillness, perhaps for the first time in many years, we are re-learning how to experience this natural but uncommon place of calmness and peace, and this becomes more accessible in between treatments as well, potentially becoming our everyday state. At the end of the session we discuss what I have felt and I usually make suggestions of supportive follow-up practices or ideas that could help to integrate the treatment.
